Edward Shippen
(1729-1806). Manuscript Document Signed. Indenture (mortgage) for the Red Lyon Inn in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, signed by Shippen as President of the Court of Common Pleas, October 30, 1788.  Mortgage by George Douglas Jr. to John Hart, in respect of some three hundred and fifty seven pounds, five shillings and four pence owed by Douglas to Hart.  4 pp, on legal size folio, 13 ½ x 8”.  Written in ink, with paper seal.  Some darkening and wear along folds, with very slight loss.

Edward Shippen (1729-1806) later served as associate justice and chief justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. His daughter, Margaret (Peggy), married Benedict Arnold in 1779.
