“Never in field or tent scorn a black regiment.”

Summary:

Issued to celebrate the November 1, 1864 Emancipation in Maryland. The lithographed image shows a cut-away view of the headquarters building of the Supervisory Committee for Recruiting Colored Regiments, located on Chestnut Street, in Philadelphia, where colored troops were enlisted. The image incorporates various tableaus, including slave auctions and colored soldiers fighting rebel troops. The Supervisory Committee printed various ephemeral souvenirs intended to bolster recruitment and draw attention to their services. This is the finest example of these imprints.
