A fine content beautiful leather-bound journal of 55 thin wooden leaves, 8vo.  [Albany], May 1778 to August 1782 kept in pen and pencil by Quackenbush.  Headed “Nicholas Quackenbush His Book of the Stait [sic] of New York 1 October 1778,” the journal records various and sundry financial transactions performed during his tenure as a quartermaster.  Typical entries read in small part: “...May 1778...Received of Udney Hay at three times Seventeen Thousand and two Hundred Dollars which I am to Account for as Ass. Q. M General wan [sic] called upon by Q M General... Fish Kill, 21, Sept. 1778 Please to pay Nicholas Quackenbush Esqr A D Q the Sum of Six Thousand Dollars...the Same on the back of the order from the Honlbe. the President of Congress on you for one Hundred Thousand Dollars lodged by me in our hands, taking a loose receipt from you...D. Hale A D QMG...”  Includes transactions with numerous prominent individuals including Cornelius Roosevelt, Jacob Borgardus, and others.  An important record, worthy of further research.
