Road to Gettysburg: Letter from 2nd Cavalry Union Soldier“From this place we went to the River and crossed and met old Lea coming this way on his march to Maryland & Pennsylvania General Pleasington drove him back a few miles from the river with his cavalry horse Lea had his whole forse thare [sic] Cavalry Infantry and Artillary our forse had to fall back on this side of the river the Fight was on the 9th it commenced Early in the morning and was kept up till night our company got out Lucky only one man wounded he was shot through the neck…”
